Kenya Karimikui AA Kirinyaga Microlot
Few coffee origins are as instantly recognizable as Kenya.
Known for their vibrant acidity, remarkable structure and layered fruit complexity, Kenyan coffees have long set the benchmark for washed coffees around the world.
This AA lot from Karimikui Factory is a beautiful expression of Kirinyaga -bright, juicy and elegant, balancing blackcurrant-like intensity with refined sweetness and exceptional clarity.
WHY WE CHOSE THIS COFFEE
Every year we look for a Kenyan coffee that captures everything we love about the origin. Karimikui does exactly that. It delivers the unmistakable blackcurrant brightness Kenya is famous for, while maintaining beautiful sweetness, silky structure and exceptional balance. This is the kind of coffee that reminds us why Kenya continues to be one of the world's most exciting coffee-producing countries.
PRocESSINg
After harvest, only perfectly ripe cherries are accepted and carefully sorted.
The cherries are depulped before undergoing a traditional Kenyan fermentation, followed by extensive washing in clean water. The parchment coffee is then slowly dried on raised African beds, where it is regularly turned to ensure even drying and exceptional cup cleanliness.
This meticulous washed process is one of the defining characteristics of Kenyan coffee, producing extraordinary clarity, vibrant acidity and remarkable flavour definition.
ABOUT THE PRODUCERS
Karimikui Factory is one of three washing stations operated by the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society, working with hundreds of smallholder producers across the fertile hills of Kirinyaga.
Most farmers cultivate only a few hectares of land, where coffee grows alongside tea, bananas and other food crops. Every harvest is picked entirely by hand, with only fully ripe cherries delivered to the factory.
Rungeto has earned an outstanding reputation for meticulous processing, transparent management and consistently producing some of Kenya’s most expressive coffees. Through careful investment in quality and long-term support for its members, the cooperative has become one of the country’s most respected producers.
Samurai Perspective
Kenya has always occupied a special place in specialty coffee.
Not because every Kenyan coffee tastes the same, but because the country’s commitment to careful farming and meticulous washed processing continues to produce some of the cleanest and most expressive coffees in the world.
Karimikui is a perfect example of that philosophy. It doesn’t rely on exotic processing or unusual varieties to stand out. Instead, it demonstrates how exceptional terroir, experienced producers and disciplined processing can create a cup of extraordinary complexity.
For us, this is what great Kenyan coffee is all about.
